The 3D TV market is bound to go really big in the near future. Although it is yet to reach majorly the common households and as of now looks like a luxury that only the rich class can afford, everyone has been smitten by the aura of 3D. The technology that has been available for many a years is only now being fully exploited as to the fullest of its potential.
Right from Sony to LG, Samsung to Toshiba are all fighting it out to get a one up on the other. The 3D platform is yet in it’s hey days and some time before it goes really big. This year has also seen the presenting of 3D TV sets minus the need of 3D glasses. Then there are the two different 3D technologies that are also available.
But then again considering the price factor which had majority of the people staying away from buying a 3D TV set, the TV makers are now looking at following a different approach. Samsung sold about 1 million units in the United States itself last year. But then looking at the fact that they were hoping to sell as many as 3-4 million 3D TV sets, this number falls far short of it. In the mean while at the CES event this year, LG were among the ones to launch with their new 3D TV presentations.
LG is also going to come up with a 47” and a 65” model later in the year. Add to this they are offering a much lighter pair of glasses to be worn while watching the TV in 3D. Then gain they will also give as much as four glasses with a TV set from the current norm that is two as being given out by most of the TV manufacturers. Then it comes to the two different 3D technologies that are available, the active 3D and passive 3D.
Each of these has its own positives and negatives about them. While the passive technology glasses are cheap and similar to the ones that we get while going to watch 3D film in the theaters. Their set back is that they work on the LCD screens that have an extra layer on them. The active technology while offers a much better picture quality is still very expensive as compared with the passive glasses. So that makes it more difficult purchasing them, their heavy weight also goes against them.
But then the hype for this year ought to be the 3D TV sets as being presented by the TV makers which don’t require 3D glasses for the viewing.
